Phase 1 Background

In Phase 1, the PDP team talked with policy makers, advocacy groups, employers, and other users of postdoc data. The objective was to understand the types of data desired by the postdoc community.

The PDP team was also interested in how postdocs make short- and long-term career choices. They wanted more data about factors that affect:

  • Decisions to accept a postdoc position
  • Decisions to terminate or migrate from a postdoc position
  • The length of postdoc appointments
  • Long-term career aspirations and potential changes in aspirations

Methods
To assess postdoc data user needs, the PDP multiple approaches:

  • Site visits
  • Focus groups
  • Workshops
  • Literature Review
