FAS Findings: Differences Between US- and Foreign-Degreed Postdocs

There are two possible criteria for separating US citizens and foreign nationals:
- Country where a doctoral degree was awarded
- Country of citizenship
The latter affects citizenship impacts legal status and permission to work in the US and the former determines exposure to different professional networks and academic traditions.
Self-identifying as a “postdoc” Non-US citizens with a foreign degree were more likely than non-US citizens with a US degree to self-identify as postdocs.
