List-assessment Interview
|
PDP conducted a series of quick-turnaround surveys to gather information about the quality of the lists, such as the:
- Eligibility of institutions or individuals on the list
- Effort required to determine eligibility and counting postdocs (number of referrals and failures in reaching the knowledgeable contact)
- Whether the contact understood what was meant by “postdoc” (which could affect eligibility of the institution)
- Quality of the list (for contact information, as well as information about the institution’s list maintenance procedures)
- Ability to acquire lists of individual postdocs from the institutions on the list
Using tailored methodology Information traditionally collected at data collection (e.g., sample eligibility and quality of contact information) was collected during the sampling frame development stage. This approach relies on tailoring of the questionnaire and methodology to the particular needs of each list.
This innovation allowed PDP to:
- Test eligibility and list quality before beginning the more costly data collection stage
- Identify operational and resource constraints for sample and survey design prior to the main data collection
- Extract the maximum information from each list in a short time
It relies on tailoring of the questionnaire and methodology to the particular needs of each list.
